Kimberley Coast Luxury Expedition Cruises
The remoteness of the Kimberley Coast has allowed her secrets to be kept from all but a select few. The magic and mystery of this once-forbidding coast touches the soul like few other places on Earth.
Over one thousand miles of towering cliffs are punctuated by plunging waterfalls, towering forests and chalky white beaches where the sand sings between your toes.
Crocodiles, whales and all manner of wildlife thrive here in splendid isolation. For the fisherman, the sea is alive with opportunity, while the rivers afford the best chance to tackle Australia’s best sportsfish, the silver barramundi.
Mustique cruises between the towering red cliffs of King George River, a pre-historic gorge where at night you can frequently glimpse the silverly tails of shooting stars as they streak across the Milky Way. Aboriginal people, their art a testament to the vigor and power of the elements surrounding them, used the cave systems here for thousands of years. Kimberley rock paintings exhibit the vibrant, more recent Wandjina style as well as the ancient ‘Bradshow’ figures dating back over 20,000 years.

Nature is powerful and majestic in the Kimberleys. Enormous tides give birth to phenomena such as the Horizontal Waterfalls of Talbot Bay where 10 metre tides rush between stone walls. The vast Montgomery reef rises out of the sea at ebb tide, producing a wall of cascades in the middle of the ocean attracting masses of marine life. Mitchell Falls, just one of many intoxicating waterfalls, can be reached by an inspirational helicopter flight across the sea.
This is an enthralling and ancient land, where each of the 2,000 kilometres of spectacular coastline seems to unfold another panorama. The opportunities for landscape and wildlife photography here are breathtaking. Explore the Buccaneer Archipelago and walk amongst thousands of nesting booby birds on Lacepede Islands, watch the whales migrating from the Antarctic and encounter the implacable stillness of the world’s oldest and deadliest reptile; the saltwater or estuarine crocodile.
The Kimberleys are stark, mysterious and utterly unforgettable.
